Chris and Rihanna apart again… March 24, 2009

Finally, I have been able to find some news about Rihanna and Chris Brown that doesn’t make my blood boil!  First of all, according to People magazine, the couple is taking a break–  Not officially breaking up, but hey, at least she’s not around him for the time being.  I’ll be honest, I didn’t blog about it when I first heard because I thought it was just a publicity stunt to get people like me to shut up.  Now that I have found out a few more things though, I’m not so sure.

While they have been apart, Rihanna has been out partying a few times and was even seen cozying up to Wilmer Valderrama from That 70’s Show.  Chris, on the other hand, hasn’t been doing so well.  In pictures he looks, well, sad actually… and according to his friend Tyrese

“It’s really hard for him to focus right now on his music, even though he really wants to.  At the end of the day, I’m not trying to justify it because wrong is wrong, but unfortunately, us as entertainers, we have to grow up on stage with a lot of people looking at us. And a lot of people forget that he’s 19, she’s only 21.”

What Brown’s friends need to realize is that they aren’t helping anyone by supporting (enabling) him.  If everyone would come out and say what he did was wrong then maybe he (and others) would go get help.  But instead people say it is “his culture” and it was “her fault”… I just hope you all feel the same way when it is your daughters.  Because the problem is that by giving people these excuses we keep the cycle going forever.  No man will change if you let him believe it was her fault and no man will change if you let him slide because it’s how he grew up.  We need to look at ourselves and how we are raising our sons.  I’ll be damned if Jasdeep ever lays a finger on a woman…. and he will be worse off.

There are a couple men out there though, that did decide to speak out against Chris… in quite a big way.  After MMA fighter Din Thomas knocked out Gabe Lemley last Saturday, he had this to say:

“It’s not cool to put your hands on a woman. So Rihanna, if you want someone to kick his ass, holler at me.”

OMG wouldn’t that be fun to watch!? And A.P. Taylor from One Song A Week released this parody of Hey There, Delilah called Hey There, Rihanna-

First of all, funny as hell, second of all, Rihanna should leave Chris for A.P.T., he’s way better looking! ;)

Lastly, and this one might be a little disturbing to some folks, DoSomething.org has made a PSA about teen dating abuse. It re-enacts the police report from the night Chris assaulted Rihanna.

Anyone still think she shouldn’t leave him (for Wilmer)??

Chris & Rihanna: More Celebrity Reactions March 10, 2009

First, a quick update:

  • TMZ.com is reporting that the infamous 3 page text message came from Chris’s manager, 39 year old, Tina Davis.
  • The couple may be recording a duet about love overcoming challenges. yea, really.

Now for the reactions/quotes of some other celebrities.

Diddy

“It was a dark time for them and I was there as more of a support.  I’m not immersed in [their situation]. I’m not going to pass judgment on it. I’m going to be there as a friend.”

A friend to who though? If he were Rihanna’s friend he would tell her to stay the hell away from Chris, not let them borrow his house for make-up sex. IMO. Obviously.

Akon

“Oh, absolutely!  I wouldn’t take anybody’s personal issues or problems— I won’t hold them accountable for that when it comes to work. I think it’s two separate things.”

This was Akon’s response when asked if he would work with Chris Brown again.  I wonder, if Osama bin Laden wanted to collaborate, would Akon look past personal issues too?  This is such a cop-out… I wish these guys would admit they all think Chris is still gonna be worth a bunch on a track and that’s why they wont speak out against what he did.

Finally, people with some sense::::

Molly Sims

“It’s so sad. I don’t think anybody knows the whole truth, but I guess the truth really doesn’t matter when [abuse] is the result. That should never happen, no matter what. And I love his music. That being said, I think [about] Rihanna : No girl, no woman, no mother, no sister, no friend, no one deserves that. Absolutely.”

Yep. Sounds good. Thank you, Molly. :D

Oprah

“Chris Brown and Rihanna, if I was your friend, I would call you up and I would say, ‘Give it some time, get yourself some counseling, take care of yourself, Heal yourself first’. And also, love doesn’t hurt. I’ve been saying this to women for years: ‘If a man hits you once, he will hit you again.’ “

Go Oprah!!! And, she is also dedicating this Thursday’s show, about Dating Violence, to all the “Rihanna’s of the world”

Rosie O’Donnell

“So, especially young women, the time to leave someone who hits you is after the first time… that’s it.  Because the chances of them turning around and changing are minimal.”

This is what I have been saying!! Why should she forgive or get back with him.  Rihanna said herself that the violence had been escalating. He will do it again.

What do you think about it? Should they be back together? Should people and companies be speaking out against what Brown did?

It just gets more and more depressing.  I’m not even surprised anymore by the comments celebrities are making about Chris Brown & Rihanna… still disgusted though.  Where to begin—

First of all, if they are really married, I will never talk about this stupid situation again! Yuck!! But I don’t think it’s true, so here’s the rest :D

It seems that with Brown’s impending court date, everyone wants to speak out FOR the young man….

Usher

I missed it, but Usher was quoted as saying this about the pictures of Chris Brown jet skiing in Miami:

“I’m a little disappointed in this photo, Come on Chris, have a little bit of remorse man. …The man’s on jet skis? Like, just relaxing in Miami?”

Go Usher, right? Nope. After his comments were made public Usher issued an apology:

“The comments made during a recent recording session amongst friends were taken out of context and blown out of proportion, I apologize on behalf of myself and my friends if anyone was offended. The intentions were not to pass judgment and we meant no harm. I respect and wish the best for all parties involved.”

Can someone please tell me why on earth we should NOT judge Chris Brown? First of all he is a celebrity and they take that gig knowing full well that they get NO privacy.  Second, he broke the law!  Third, did people really not see the picture?  What he did deserves to be judged, so get over it Chris Brown fans.

Flo Rida

I posted before about his comments that bothered me, but I also stated that he dropped Chris Brown from a song and that was good enough for me.  Turns out, he did not drop Brown from the song because of the incident with Rihanna.  He even made a point to come out publicly and say this:

“It’s not just that record, there were other records that couldn’t make the album that I wanted to make the album as well, but that was the process – this was way before ever hearing anything about [Brown allegedly beating Rihanna]. This was way before, at least a month. I had been done with this record.”

So, my previous statement about him pretty much having no balls to speak up for women still stands.

Kanye West

Although he has called Rihanna his “baby sis” before, but still had this to say:

“Can’t we give Chris a break? I know I make mistakes in life.”

Now, this was before the picture came out, but still- If I heard some buy beat my little sister up I wouldn’t tell people to give him a break.

Suge Knight

He can say it better then I can type it-

I wonder, Suge, what if he brought her up on stage and beat the hell out of her? Because that was Rihanna’s early birthday present.  Maybe Brown should hit up Suge in the future though, he has experience with this sorta thing.

50 cent

After the incident first happened he came out with this (I don’t even know what to call it, animation, video, cartoon, whatever)

Then, after he saw the picture, he said this:

“I thought that was something that you could use for humor, like any other comedian or someone else would utilize current events, After I saw the photographs of Rihanna, that wasn’t funny anymore. There’s a point you’re already past a woman fighting you back, You look at (the photograph), and it obviously went past that point, so there’s some issues there that definitely gotta be addressed. Not to take any shots at Chris or Rihanna or to take sides in any way, but it’s really not cool. It’s not funny at all anymore. That’s why there won’t be no more references to that from me in any way.

To be honest, I think his statement bothered me more then the dumb video.  Thanks for the apology and great that he isn’t going to make jokes about domestic violence anymore, but why not take a side? I think it is fairly obvious here what side we should all be taking.  Even if she is loony in love with him, the rest of the world can still agree that he was wrong.

You think celebs are bad…. go read what Chris Brown’s crazy fans have to say.

So, I have a feeling it is for sure now. Chris Brown and Rihanna I mean. Her father gave a statement to People from Barbados-

“Whatever road she chooses, I’m behind her. We are a family who stick together even though we are apart”

Arrgh!!! What the hell? How is this a father’s response?!? How was he mad at the LAPD for the photo leak, but doesn’t give a shit that some punk kid beat the crap out of his daughter?
If some guy did that to Nayana I would literally have to lock Angat up in a basement to keep him from killing the guy. I just don’t get this situation at all.

March 8th, 2009 in International Women’s Day. This year the theme is: Women and men united to end violence against women and girls. Currently, there are over 600 events happening, in over 45 countries.
To search for an event near you CLICK HERE.
You can also follow Internation Women’s Day on Twitter @Reuters_Women

One thing you can do, nice and easy, right from your chair is sign this I-VAWA petition.
The International Violence Against Women Act (I-VAWA) was developed by Women Thrive Worldwide, Amnesty International USA, the Family Violence Prevention Fund, and lead Senate sponsors Joe Biden and Richard Lugar, with the help of organizational partners. It was drafted in consultation with more than 150 groups including U.S.-based NGOs, U.N. agencies and 40 women’s groups across the globe.

I have decided that in honor of International Women’s Day I am going to try and do *something* to help the Women of the DRC. I joined Raise Hope for the Congo and I am hoping that in the next 3 months I will be able to get the word out about what is happening to these women.  Here is the campaign video—

Also, I found a place to donate to the women of the Congo.  It is through the VDay website- https://secure.ga4.org/01/drcongo

Chris Brown is sorry and might be trying for a reconciliation.  He also showered Rihanna with gifts for her birhday.  Diamonds, ipods, and flowers from his mom!!  I hope that she will be smarter than a few gifts and a (maybe sincere) apology, but I guess we will see.  It seems everyone else in the business wants to give their two cents as well–

Rapper Bow Wow, who is friends with Chris Brown, had this to say:

“I mean, being in the business, the first thing is ‘Ah, it’s false, another rumor, bloggers just wanting to have traffic to their site, but when the story was unfolding, it was kind of shocking to all. Chris is a good friend of mine. We’ve had the opportunity to tour together. And then Rihanna, she’s just a beautiful person. Period. Never done no wrong to nobody.  At the end of the day I’ve always believed in whatever happens with people’s business… my mom always told me don’t get into.  And the situation is so major, I think they just need their space and I think they need to deal with it… I’m praying for them both.  Just shocking, I mean, we heard what happened, but we really didn’t get a visual for it. But I mean hey, man. The picture speaks for itself.”

Actually, I think this is probably one of  the better responses that I have heard.  He acknowledged that fact that it happened and is a bad situation, but said it wasn’t his business.  I would have liked a little more Brown bashing, of course, but I am still mostly satisfied with what Bow Wow had to say.

Flo rida, on the other hand, pissed me off a little:

“Definitely. Her and Chris Brown- I met them and they are both great people. They definitely give music a good name because they are very talented. Preferably they can put aside their differences and get back to making hot music.”

WTF? How about some kind of mention of the horrible nasty job he did to her face.  I may be too blunt, but he pretended like it was nothing… “their differences” are you kidding me?    UPDATE: Flo rida did cancel a collaboration with Brown for his next album and I guess actions do speak louder then words, so thanks Flo rida!

R&B Singer Neyo, who is very close with Brown, talked to Rihanna before he made a statement:

“I wanted to talk to them before I made a comment, I spoke to Rihanna. She says she’s fine. She didn’t go into detail about what happened. I understand it’s a painful situation; I didn’t push.  I saw the picture, That just really hurt me to my heart, man. Again, I still don’t know what happened, ’cause I haven’t had the opportunity to talk to Chris yet. But to take it to that level really hurt my heart. All I can say is, I’m praying for both of them. They’re both in my prayers.  I haven’t had a chance to talk to Chris yet. I just wanna sit down and talk to that dude and just explain if he doesn’t understand: ‘That’s not something that’s excusable, bruh. You have to get a little smarter about whatever it is going on in your relationship. You have to get a little smarter about how you handle certain situations.’  I’m not going to crucify him. I’m not going to do that. That’s still my homeboy at the end of the day, For it to go to that level was wrong. I won’t say who was responsible. I won’t pick no sides. I’m just saying it was wrong it had to happen like that, and I’m praying for the both of them.”

I liked that he talked to Rihanna, but I do not like his comments about the situation.  How can he go from saying that the pictures hurt his heart and that it is not excusable to saying he wont say who was responsible and that Chris is still his “homeboy”?? Those pictures ARE NOT OK!!! I don’t care how annoying she was acting about a text message it is NOT OK to hit, especially a woman.

Even if it comes out that she was swinging on him first, which I doubt, I still say he is wrong.  Men can (usually) control/hold back a woman enough to not have to beat her up in “self-defense”.  SO why aren’t these men coming down harder on Chris Brown.  Probably because they know- either the couple will get back together or the public will forgive Brown.  Sad.

On this web site, there is a poll asking if Rihanna should take him back or not.  When I answered only 157 out of 268 people thought she should stay the hell away from him.  41% actually think he deserves a second chance from her!!! My worst fears have totally been confirmed… the world has gone completely insane.

Rihanna with Chris Brown (Explored)
Image by Express Monorail (Hiatus) via Flickr

I am absolutely disgusted that someone over at the LAPD would leak the photo of Rihanna all bruised and beat up.  They released a statement saying they were mad and trying to get to the bottom of things, but not that they were sorry!  I would be so beyond pissed if pictures of me, after something like that happened were leaked.   TMZ and the rest of the news places have NO class for showing the picture.  I will not be linking to it, because I don’t think it should be on the internet!

Before the picture became public, Chris Brown had this to say:

“Words cannot begin to express how sorry and saddened I am over what transpired,” the statement reads. “I am seeking the counseling of my pastor, my mother and other loved ones and I am committed, with God’s help, to emerging a better person. “Much of what has been speculated or reported on blogs and/or reported in the media is wrong,” the statement continues.”

Sorry and saddened is not good enough for how she looked.  And his loved ones and a pastor aren’t going to be enough to help him with his anger issues.  When Rihanna pretended to call a friend and have them call the police he told her he was going to kill her.  That is not a normal reaction to anything.

And Rihanna’s dad said this:

“If it were me, I’d move on.”

He also said he wouldn’t tell her what to do though.  I wonder when she is going to come out an make it official that she is no longer with Chris Brown.  Plenty of women stay with men that abuse them, I can imagine it might be hard for her to leave someone she has been with for over a year and is obviously very close with.

The fans all have their opinions as well.  Some strongly support Rihanna, some think it was a bad situation but that both artists can still thrive, and some even support Chris Brown.  I was able to find someone who was thinking about the bigger picture though:

How can we improve our next generation if we let things like these [go] unpunished and unnoticed? We must take a solid stand on unethical behavior regardless who the artist, the singer, the punker, the [politician] may be. Are we just multiplying in the world like ants? We are better than that. Trust me. –OpusVonD

I hope that we will use this situation to open up the discussion on domestic violence.  It is a big problem, not just in the US, but throughout the world.

If you are in an abusive situation there are resources to help.  Just remember that computer use can be monitored.  I have included links about domestic violence for anyone that is interested.

UPDATE: Rihanna has come out with a statement.  She doesn’t talk about what happened or what is going to happen she just thanks everyone for their support. She is also back in Los Angeles.

This whole Chris Brown/Rihanna thing has really got me caught off guard. Does he seem like the last guy that would ever do that or what?! Well, as I have been reading about it all I came across something. According to Brown he grew up terrified because he had an abusive step dad. Now, I am in NO WAY saying this excuses his behavior, I am just trying to point out the cycle of violence. We can’t raise our children horribly and expect them to still turn out good people. The fact that he would pull over his rented Lamborghini to beat up his girlfriend is pretty sick to me. The real kicker is that in the article about his step dad he had this to say about women-

“It affected me … especially toward women, I treat them differently. Because I don’t want to go through the same thing or put a woman through the same thing that that person put my mom through.”

Since it has happened, neither showed up at the Grammys, Rhianna canceled a concert & her big birthday party, and Chris has lost his Wrigley’s & Body by Milk sponsorships. Some radio stations have even started to boycott his music. This all sounds great to me, everyone seems to be doing what they should be, but I can’t help but wonder about a few months, or even years from now. People forgive wife beaters all the time- just look at Jason Kidd! But it is harder to still be the sexiest little sexpot in town when you are a battered woman and are rumored to have herpes. I wish them both good luck honestly. Rihanna with her recovery and with keeping her career on track and Chris with his obvious anger issues… wouldn’t mind if his career went in the shitter though. I guess we will have to wait and see if either of these two want to come forward and tell us the real truth, because until then it is all Paris Hilton, text messages, and herpes.

CA Prop 8 October 23, 2008

OK, can someone, anyone please explain to me how 2 homosexual people getting married will effect any heterosexuals life or marriage in ANY way!? I really don’t get it.  I am allowed to marry any guy I want, as fast as I want, but God forbid two gay men share their love and commitment to each other with family and friends– even if they have been together for 20 years!!! Sanctity of marriage~~~ like Ms. Spears getting married and un-married in a matter of hours? Come on people, keep your religion out of it– they’re not asking to get married in YOUR church.  And speaking of religion… hasn’t anyone ever heard of the 1st amendment!?!  Here ya go-

Amendment I

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

Now, I realize it’s difficult to completely decipher our Founding Father’s vague words so here is another little something I found at  FindLaw

Madison’s original proposal for a bill of rights provision concerning religion read: ”The civil rights of none shall be abridged on account of religious belief or worship, nor shall any national religion be established, nor shall the full and equal rights of conscience be in any manner, or on any pretense, infringed.” The language was altered in the House to read: ”Congress shall make no law establishing religion, or to prevent the free exercise thereof, or to infringe the rights of conscience.”  In the Senate, the section adopted read: ”Congress shall make no law establishing articles of faith, or a mode of worship, or prohibiting the free exercise of religion, . . .”  It was in the conference committee of the two bodies, chaired by Madison, that the present language was written with its somewhat more indefinite ”respecting” phraseology.  Debate in Congress lends little assistance in interpreting the religion clauses; Madison’s position, as well as that of Jefferson who influenced him, is fairly clear, but the intent, insofar as there was one, of the others in Congress who voted for the language and those in the States who voted to ratify is subject to speculation.

Well, according to Madison, Prop. 8 is a total violation of civil rights.  However, the crazy cryptic Amendment that the House and Senate wrote… well, who knows what that was supposed to mean.  I still think they meant, at least kind of, the same thing.  No one should have their civil rights trampled on by certain people’s religion.  No on Prop 8
