So… hubbs parents were invited to a wedding (Indian)… which means they have like 8,000 parties to go to.  No offense to all you Indians out there, but you really do have way too many parties for weddings that usually aren’t even based on love. Just something I noticed… don’t hate me, I love my India!

My in-laws want us to go, but we decided not to… which of course, pisses them off. (((Side note:: his parents did not attend our wedding, but for some reason expect us to go to every single one of their friend’s kid’s weddings. FAIL)))  The girl that is getting married I have met once before– she didn’t shake my hand, or smile, or even nod in my general direction.  She also didn’t come to either of my kids big birthday parties or actually send Angat & I an invitation to her wedding. Now, honestly, I got over the fact that all the Indian girls hate me a long time ago… they just shouldn’t expect me to come to their wedding.

OK, anyway, I got to see Angat’s parent’s invite and, let me tell you, it was a sight…. invitations for Indian weddings are always very beautiful (like seriously, really gorgeous) and her’s was no exception. There was one thing I hadn’t seen on an Indian (or any!!) invitation before. Down at the bottom of one of the pages it said no boxed gifts. WTF?? No boxed gifts?!? I know the culture is different and people really like to give money, but to demand it as a gift seems a little much.  Why not just put no gifts? If someone still wants to write a check, they will.  And what ever happened to “It’s the thought that counts?”  She made it very clear– No thoughts please, just zeros!

Am I totally crazy for thinking this is inappropriate? Has anyone seen this before?

Not much going on around here, hubbs is at school today and the kids went to their dhadi’s house. (Why I’m free to be naked in the dining room!)  All we have been thinking/talking about lately is Nayana’s birthday.  We’re going to throw a party at my moms house- Butterflies & Bugs… which should be lots of fun.  She’s already decided to wear her wings and tutu.

And, since no birthday around here is complete with just one day to party, we are also planning a trip to San Diego. Sea World, for sure, and then either the Zoo or Wild Animal Park.  She can’t wait, but I think I might be even more excited! I haven’t been since freshmen year in high school when I went to an *NSYNC concert (don’t judge me!) The next day my friends and I hit Sea World and had the best time, so I can’t wait to go make some new memories with Nayana.

PS My computer is being wonky and won’t let me upload my naked picture! I’ll try again later, because I have to go get some clothes on before hubbs comes home and thinks I’ve lost my mind.

Alright, you guys are killing me.  Before the apology by Chris Brown practically no one wanted to Chris bash with me. But now that he has said “sorry” everyone hates him?? Huh?

I posted the apology yesterday and you can see it here.  Look, I’m not saying forgive and forget and let the fucker do it again, I’m just saying what more can he do besides apologize?   Will I buy his albums, no, but I’ll stop calling him a woman abuser… for now.  People make mistakes all the time and while it sure as hell IS NOT an excuse, him growing up in a violent household is definitely a contributor to his awful behavior.

And the people that are mad that he took so long need to understand the way the system works… NO ONE discusses their case in the middle of it. It’s not like this is his first apology to Rihanna  (he’s been doing that for 5 months) this was his apology to us. And I think we have no other choice but to forgive him- I’m not perfect and I’ve needed forgiveness before too! And it is always possible for people to change and better themselves…. Of course, Rihanna should still stay away, but I don’t think we need to banish him to some deserted island just yet!  Or, maybe I’m just a sucker for an apology….

Sounds beautifully memorized…. I guess I kinda have to stop talking so much crap now that he has apologized, but don’t think I’ll forget! He can spew all the role model BS he wants, but the true test is if he does it again or not. Here’s hoping he’s learned some self-control and respect for women.

Hubbs birthday is this week, today (July 17th) to be exact, so, we have been celebrating since Monday.  It’s kind of tradition for him to get birthday weeks instead of days… so spoiled!

Monday started with the “usual” breakfast (in bed, of course!) eggs, sausage, bacon, and pancakes.

Dinner was Meatloaf, home-made onion rings, and sweet corn… with Whiskey Sours!! (Hubbs new favorite, although he says he feels girlie drinking them)  The onion rings were super difficult, because I don’t actually have a fryer, but I made it work and they tasted great!!

Tuesday was Cinnamon Rolls!  They were oh, so delicious and way too much fun to make. All the rolling was hard work, but Nayana & I loved spreading on the sugar and toppings!

Halfway through, Hubbs came down to demand protein with his breakfast, so Nayana was put on icing duty while I made the Birthday Boy more sausage and eggs.Everything turned out great, but next time I make the cinnamon rolls (and that will be SOON) I definitely only need half of the batch… soo many leftovers!

Tuesday night I was off the hook, because we went out to eat with Angat’s parents… and Wednesday morning, because Hubbs had class.  But I made up for it on Wednesday night by making Chicken Cordon Bleu, Twice Baked Potatoes, and corn. It all tasted good, but took FOREVER to make, so I doubt it will happen that often!

And for dessert I made applesauce in the slow cooker. It was the easiest/tastiest applesauce you’ll EVER find!!

It’s just apples, water, sugar, & cinnamon for 4 hours.  Deepu especially enjoyed making a mess with his!

Thursday the true chef in me came out… I was cooking all damn day! lol For breakfast I made Strawberry-Banana Muffins and Eggies McKarin. Eggies McKarin is what I’ve called my mom’s Eggs Benedict for as long as I can remember. She makes it every Christmas and Angat thinks it’s the BEST EVER, so I had to make it sometime this week. And I made the muffins just because the recipe looked/sounded so good (and it was!)

For Thursday night, I wanted to make grilled chicken kabobs, which takes a little prep work!  Nayana was more then willing to be my kitchen helper, so we got to work as soon as we finished breakfast.

We had to marinate the chicken and onions all day before we could stab (spear?) everything onto our wooden skewers. I decided to go with the grilling theme and make Bacon-Wrapped Asparagus to go along. Here was dinner pre-grill….

While I was putting the kabobs together I almost burned the patio down, so I decided to let hubbs do the actual grilling. And he did an excellent job… besides losing one bacon wrapped asparagus.

Today is hubbs actual birthday, but I didn’t have to make breakfast because he had class. For dinner we are going over to his parents to have Indian food and cut the cake. Then tomorrow morning I’m off with the boys (Angat & his dad) to the California-Nevada border.  Angat just has to have dice if he is gambling, so the casinos around here won’t cut it. LOL Plus I know they love all the free alcohol!

So, yea, it’s been a long week… and it’s definitely NOT over! I’m not sure how much more of all this spoiling I can do << trust me, you’ve only heard 1/2 of it >> Can’t wait until it’s my turn, how long until August 31st??

Going to Michael Jackson’s memorial was an amazing experience, I know if I don’t write anything down I’ll forget, so you can all read about my time too! They told us not to bring cameras, so I didn’t, but I did have my cell phone to take a couple pictures with. I had entered with both my email address and my husbands, and he actually won! So, Monday I sent him to Dodgers Stadium to get our tickets and wristbands.

When he got back he was practically begging me to sell the tickets… But I was not giving up this opportunity. And I am SO glad I didn’t let him talk me into it. Everyone did a great job making it a classy memorial and not some spectacle.

I woke up at 3:30 in the morning to get ready. I decided to wear funeral attire with a twist. Black pants, blue shirt, and a black sweater covered in sequins… I thought it was appropriate.

We drove to LA, my husband going the wrong way more then once. I asked him before we left if he needed directions but, of course, he thought he didn’t. $20 bucks to park and a 5 minute walk later we were at the Staples Center!

Our seats were alright. We could see the stage straight on, but we were on the opposite side of the arena. We had one of the Michael Jackson’s impersonators sitting behind us, and Angat wanted me to take a picture with him, but people dressed up when it isn’t Halloween freaks me out. (I actually ran from Bugs Bunny at Magic Mountain when I was about 15!)

Then, the ushers came and told us we were going to move somewhere else to be seat fillers. When we first got up to the front we were only about 4 rows from the floor, but after the next move I was 11 rows back. I couldn’t have been 75 feet from the stage and where they put the casket, so I was more then pleased with my seats. After we had to move once Angat got frustrated and decided to go sit back in our original seats, so I had to sit by myself with all the (I think) political people. I think they must have been in government because they were all stuffy, white, and holier then thou. They also took the longest to stand and applaud. No one in my section seemed like they had any connection with Michael, which kind of bothered me honestly.

OH, and WHY was everyone cheering when Kobe walked in??? Seriously!! I mean, I know we were in the Staples Center, but still, it’s a funeral!

I did, however, absolutely love the program they put together. It had some great pictures of Michael and some really nice messages from his family and friends. It was hard to get most of it to scan, but I managed to get some pictures.

One of the things I found most surprising about the day was the few minutes right before the memorial actually started. The entire Staples Center was silent. It was almost creepy how quiet it was in there. Also, most people didn’t know his body was going to be there. My mom had called and told me she had heard it on the news, so I wasn’t as surprised, but it was a very emotional moment for the entire place.

I thought most of the singers and presenters did a good job. I know how hard it can be to do something like that.  I sang The Wind Beneath My Wings for my 4th grade Teacher’s memorial and was bawling the entire time. ((If you want to see any of the preformances, click on the name and it will bring you to the YouTube page.))  Mariah didn’t sound great, but I think it was because she was emotional.  Jennifer Hudson sounded AMAZING live, although when I watched on TV it wasn’t as moving.  Also, she is the most gorgeous pregnant lady I’ve ever seen! She had such a perfect belly!

Brooke Shields looked and spoke beautifully. I had no idea her and Michael were so close! But hubbs and I agreed Magic is crazy if he thinks eating KFC with Michael was the best moment of his life.  The man was married, had 3 kids, won 5 championships, an Olympic Gold Medal, and he is in the Hall of Fame!  And can someone tell me why Kobe was even there.  He was the worst presenter… he didn’t bother memorizing his 5 lines and couldn’t manage to read it off the teleprompter.  I wanted to tell him to go shoot free throws somewhere and leave Michael alone!… but I controlled myself.  I was also a little bummed that Usher didn’t sing an upbeat Michael song and show us some moves. I get why he didn’t, they wanted it to be all somber and sad, but I think Michael would have liked if Usher moonwalked!

Al Sharpton was LOUD but I’ll admit, moving.  When he told Michael’s children “Wasn’t nothing strange about your Daddy, it was strange what your Daddy had to deal with.” I thought the Staples Center was going to explode.

And the little boy from Britain’s Got Talent, Shaheen Jafargholi, was beyond amazing. He gave me the chills more then once.  And he was the only one that didn’t have the teleprompter going… well him and Stevie Wonder. (Bad Joke, I know)

Jermaine made me cry when he sang Smile and I love that the brothers were all wearing a glove.  I thought John Mayer did a nice job, but I wish he would have sang… or anyone would have, for that matter. Snore.

I enjoyed what Queen Latifah had to say and the poem she read by Maya Angelou. You can read it here.  And I especially loved hearing the stories from Smokey Robinson and Berry Gordy about young Michael.

Congresswoman Jackson Lee really got the crowd pumped with the whole “innocent until proven otherwise” thing, but I was more moved by the award they are trying to give Michael. American Legend…. quite a title!

Pastor Lucious Smith and Lionel Richie were… um… nice.  The Kings and, of course, the Jacksons made me cry. At the end they showed us something Michael had been working on for the upcoming tour and then sang We are the World and Heal the World.

But the real tearjerker was when Michael Jackson’s daughter, Paris, spoke.

The worst part is that you know she wanted to speak because she knows all the drama that surrounds her dad and her family.  My heart breaks for her too, because it really sucks to lose your dad at a young age.

I wasn’t good at spotting the stars in the crowd. Of course, I knew where the family was and a lot of the speakers, but besides that I didn’t bother.  However, some celebs walked right by me up the aisle!  I was able to see, Jaleel White (Steve Urkel), Terry Crews, and Mary J Blige… who PS has the most amazing ass I’ve seen, except in the mirror! I had to control myself from not touching, so it was a good thing hubbs had moved back to the other seats!

We left as soon as it was over, but as we were leaving there were planes writing MJ in the sky, so I got to cry one last time. (LOL I swear, I’m not some HUGE Michael fan, I cry about everything.)

Overall, it was a really nice memorial and I’m sure Michael was pleased, but I’ll bet he wished we would have left better instructions. I think he wanted more of a celebration and we were all very serious and sad. Brooke even said herself, he would have wanted us to smile.

After the memorial was over, I actually got to do a radio interview with Mark Parton from Australia. (@markparton on Twitter) It was really cool, but I’m sure glad I didn’t have to hear what I sounded like!

Lastly, I decided that since I’ve been lagging on my 101 in 1001 List the memorial will count as my concert. It pretty much was one anyway!
