Next Tuesday, May 26th, the California Supreme Court will either reject or uphold Proposition 8. It’s being called Day of Decision and plans are in the works for all outcomes. Protests, if the court rules to uphold Prop 8, and celebrations if they get rid of that bullshit!
To find your closest rally, head over to the Day of Decision web page.
For updates you can follow @DayofDecision on Twitter
Also, the Saturday following Day of Decision (May 30) is Meet in the Middle 4 Equality. It is being held at the Fresno City Hall at 1 pm.

Prop 8 Revisited March 9, 2009

I didn’t know if I should bring this up after the fight I got into last November, but I really can’t help myself. The California Supreme Court met last week to discuss Prop 8, and it’s not looking too good. I hate that people think two consenting adults cannot marry just because they are the same sex. When you take away that nice “definition of marriage” excuse, you see Prop 8 for what it truly is, hatred and bigotry.
Love is love, no matter what genders are involved. I found a web site called 13 Love Stories. It is the moving stories of 13 different same sex couples. I really recommend checking out the site, but I also wanted to post a few of my favorite stories for everyone to watch.
Raymond & Byron
Leona & Grace
Tom & Davidson
I don’t see any reason why these couples and others like them should not marry. If you’ve got one, I’d love to hear it.
Side Note: I am extremely disappointed with how the No on 8 campaign was run. It turns out a letter from Obama was kept almost secret. In the letter Obama says:
And that is why I oppose the divisive and discriminatory efforts to amend the California Constitution, and similar efforts to amend the U.S. Constitution or those of other states.
Who knows what the outcome would have been if this letter had been made public, but I’m sure it wouldn’t have hurt!

Today the California Supreme Court decided there were some serious questions that need to be answered concerning Prop 8. While they are not going to stay the implementation of Prop 8
, they are
going
to try to decide several issues concerning the proposition.
(1) Is Proposition 8 invalid because it constitutes a revision of, rather than
an amendment to, the California Constitution?
(2) Does Proposition 8 violate the separation-of-powers doctrine under
the California Constitution?
(3) If Proposition 8 is not unconstitutional, what is its effect, if any, on
the marriages of same-sex couples performed before the adoption of
Proposition 8?
I for one can’t wait to see what their answers are to these questions. They hope to have briefing done by January 2009 so they can start the oral argument in March.
While people for same-sex marriage have been submitting letters calling for equality, the people against it are also sending in letters telling them to hurry up and put Prop 8 into action. You will be reading more about this from me!!

This Saturday there is a nationwide protest to GET AMERICAS EQUAL RIGHTS BACK. There are Fight the H8 rallies all over the country… cities in every state. I am going to attend either the Pomona or Irvine rallies because they are closer then Los Angeles. I would LOVE for some more people to go too, so click the picture up top and then find your state and city! Lets have the City Halls throughout America packed!
If you are from California, like the cool kids, then click the pic and you can see a list of all the rally locations in the Golden State!
I just got back from Michaels, I was getting poster supplies, and this is part of my conversation with the checkout dude. I had already paid and I was putting my stuff in the cart while hubby was trying to get the kids together and bring them to the car.
Him: “You makin’ a poster?”
Me: “Yea, do you think it will be big enough *giggle giggle*” (my poster is awesomely HUGE
)
Him: “Yea, ha, what’s it for?”
Me: “It is for a protest I am going to this weekend for Equal Rights.”
Him: “Are you gay?” (I am assuming he asked because I had my two kids and husband with me)
Me: “No.”
Him: “Then we do you care so much?”
Me: “Because I care about what is right, why don’t you care so much?” (I tend to get snarky when confronted with ignorance)
Him: “Because I’m not a fag.”
Me: “Excuse Me?” (I could feel my heart start to pound)
Him: “I said because I’m not a fag, your kids are prolly gonna end up gay.” (so…)
Me: “Better mine then yours, obviously”
And then I walked out, before I punched him in the face. What is wrong with this world? A guy working at a craft store is calling people fags now? Please tell me you can all see a least a little irony in that one. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised, considering in my county almost 70% of people voted YES on 8. YUCK! I am obviously surrounded by hateful bigots!

Now that it has been a few days, I finally feel up to writing about
this subject. California voted to pass Proposition 8. I was going to go to a rally tonight, but my babysitters (aka my in laws) had something come up and after watching on the news I don’t think I would be able to handle a 2 year old, a 7 month old, and fighting the good fight. I have looked up some other gatherings online though, so new plan is for tomorrow. I have been wondering a few things though.
Did anyone take the time to actually read the proposition, or did they just listen to scare tactics?
Teaching the homosexual agenda in school and forcing churches to marry gay couples had NOTHING to do with it! Here it is verbatim for anyone interested:
This initiative measure is submitted to the people in accordance with the provisions of Article II, Section 8, of the California Constitution. This initiative measure expressly amends the California Constitution by adding a section thereto; therefore, new provisions proposed to be added are printed in italic type to indicate that they are new.
SECTION 1. Title
This measure shall be known and may be cited as the “California Marriage Protection Act.”
SECTION 2. Section 7.5 is added to Article I of the California Constitution, to read:
SEC. 7.5. Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California.
So, what happened was, Californians voted to make marriage between a man and a woman, then some judges said that it was unconstitutional to do that, so, these same Californians decided to CHANGE the constitution to fit their hateful needs. A vote for yes took away the rights of MANY hard-working, really awesome Californians. (Americans actually, because quite a few other states were just as hateful this election) A vote for NO would have let everyone marry the person
they love. There were no big plans to invade the element
ary schools with rainbow flags and labrys. And churches would continue to have the right to deny their services to any couple they want, gay or straight. It makes me really sad to hear that churches are spreading lies for their “cause”. All they want is the same rights as you, nothing more and certainly nothing less. Why do you care who someone marries anyway, huh? Please fill me in, because I am confused, do I get to start voting on everyone’s marriages now or just the people you consider second class citizens?
What is it that makes someone think their love is more important or significant then another couple’s?
What is so great about a man and a woman? Don’t tell me it is because they can have kids, because then we should be denying infertile and old people the right to marry. And definitely don’t tell me anything about Adam and Eve, because unless you have some bones or fossils I don’t know about, they might not have even existed. That is great if you believe they did, but we don’t make laws based on what YOU believe. They are based on what is right and fair, so keep your lies and bigotry out of it.

How is it possible that Californians thought ANIMALS needed more rights, but PEOPLE, less? Over 60% of Californians voted YES on 2 to help animal treatment on factory farms, but only 48% think everyone deserves the right to marry. Where is the logic in that?? Animals have more rights and are more important then people now?? Well, just the people YOU think are living in horrible sin, right?
OK fine if God thinks it is wrong, He also thinks lying, adultery, and laziness are wrong but we aren’t passing any laws there.
What is next, will we decide interracial marriages aren’t valid? Will you try to take my marriage from me as well? Some people argue that the Bible has a pretty strong argument to-
Deuteronomy 7:3-4 says
Do not intermarry with them. Do not give your daughters to their sons or take their daughters for your sons, for they will turn your sons away from following me to serve other gods, and the Lord’s anger will burn against you and will quickly destroy you.
It may seem a little out there, but I say it is about as concrete as the passages that are against homosexuality. And it wasn’t until 1967 that the last 16 states made interracial marriage legal, so who knows if I’m next.
Are all the homosexuals going to stop paying taxes? Why should they have to pay if they are not given the same rights? Melissa Etheridge has decided to stop, I wonder who is going to join her? Find out more in John Bisceglia’s blog Gay Tax Protest
I don’t know what is going to happen, the only silver lining is that the majority of people that voted NO were the youth, so it looks like things will get better. We gonna be in charge soon enough and then we can fix this mess and do what is right!
I had high hopes that California would block this proposition, but I guess there are small minded people everywhere.

10 Reasons Why Gay Marriage Is Wrong October 27, 2008

UPDATE: I think I found where this came from!! Gator Gay Straight Alliance take credit here.
10 Reasons Why Gay Marriage is Wrong
1) Being gay is not natural.
And real Americans always reject unnatural things like eyeglasses, polyester, air conditioning, tattoos, piercings and silicone breasts.
2) Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay.
In the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.
3) Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior.
People may even wish to marry their pets, because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract. Blow-up dolls are next, then pencils.
4) Straight marriage has been around a long time and hasn’t changed at all.
That’s why women are still property, interracial marriages are forbidden, and divorce is still illegal.
5) Straight marriage will be less meaningful if gay marriage were allowed.
And we can’t let the sanctity of Britney Spears’ 55-hour just-for-fun marriage be destroyed.
6) Straight marriages are valid because they produce children.
Therefore, gay couples, infertile couples, and old people shouldn’t be allowed to marry. It’s not like our population isn’t out of control and our orphanages aren’t full– the world REALLY needs more children.
7) Obviously gay parents will raise gay children.
You know, because straight parents ONLY raise straight children.
Gay marriage is not supported by religion.
And in a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country.
(Did I miss the lesson where Jesus says He hates gays?)
9) Children cannot succeed without a male and female role model at home.
Which is exactly why we as a society expressly forbid single parents to raise children.
10) Gay marriage will change the foundation of society; we could never adapt to new social norms.
Just like we haven‘t adapted to cars, longer life spans, or Bush.
OK, I did not write this, but I did change a few things to make it better!! I LOVE whoever did write it though…. they rock!

OK, can someone, anyone please explain to me how 2 homosexual people getting married will effect any heterosexuals life or marriage in ANY way!? I really don’t get it. I am allowed to marry any guy I want, as fast as I want, but God forbid two gay men share their love and commitment to each other with family and friends– even if they have been together for 20 years!!! Sanctity of marriage~~~ like Ms. Spears getting married and un-married in a matter of hours? Come on people, keep your religion out of it– they’re not asking to get married in YOUR church. And speaking of religion… hasn’t anyone ever heard of the 1st amendment!?! Here ya go-–
Amendment I
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.
Now, I realize it’s difficult to completely decipher our Founding Father’s vague words so here is another little something I found at FindLaw
Madison’s original proposal for a bill of rights provision concerning religion read: ”The civil rights of none shall be abridged on account of religious belief or worship, nor shall any national religion be established, nor shall the full and equal rights of conscience be in any manner, or on any pretense, infringed.” The language was altered in the House to read: ”Congress shall make no law establishing religion, or to prevent the free exercise thereof, or to infringe the rights of conscience.” In the Senate, the section adopted read: ”Congress shall make no law establishing articles of faith, or a mode of worship, or prohibiting the free exercise of religion, . . .” It was in the conference committee of the two bodies, chaired by Madison, that the present language was written with its somewhat more indefinite ”respecting” phraseology. Debate in Congress lends little assistance in interpreting the religion clauses; Madison’s position, as well as that of Jefferson who influenced him, is fairly clear, but the intent, insofar as there was one, of the others in Congress who voted for the language and those in the States who voted to ratify is subject to speculation.
Well, according to Madison, Prop. 8 is a total violation of civil rights. However, the crazy cryptic Amendment that the House and Senate wrote… well, who knows what that was supposed to mean. I still think they meant, at least kind of, the same thing. No one should have their civil rights trampled on by certain people’s religion. No on Prop 8
