My Dad (and dinner)

The first one is a country song by Alan Jackson. It’s called Chattahoochee and it is kinda hickish, but I really like it because my dad used to sing it all around the house. Friends of mine that would spend the night can remember waking up to him singing and making pancakes.  Every time I hear it on the radio or an old burned cd (Shh!) I smile….

The second song is The Circle of Life from The Lion King.  A few weeks after my dad died my Aunt Stefanie wanted to do something nice for my family, so she took me and my sister to a movie. What better choice for a 9 and 5 year old then the latest Disney movie, right? My poor aunt was probably just dying after this scene…

I don’t know about my sister, but I think the movie helped. It showed me  that it is ok to be sad, but you shouldn’t just run off with a warthog & meerkat and try to forget your problems. LOL And to this day The Lion King is my favorite Disney movie. Thanks Aunt Stef!

My dad and Cindy, my 4th grade teacher

My 4th grade teacher, Mrs. Kirchhof, also died in the same accident as my father.  The next year at my school we held a memorial for her. A lot of her past students sang together, poems were read, and I sang a song- Bette Midler’s Wind Beneath My Wings.  I practiced for months before, hoping I wouldn’t cry, but it was no help. I bawled the entire time, but I stayed up there and finished.. and I’m glad I did. To this day I can’t make it to the chorus with crying, but I still love the song!
